History of Macintosh Apples
With their distinct red and green skin, tender white flesh and lip-smacking tart flavor, Macintosh apples have long been a beloved fruit. They ripen in late September, making them a fall-time favorite, and are enjoyed both fresh off the tree and in many recipes. These flavorful fruits were first discovered in 1811, when Canadian farmer John McIntosh came across a Macintosh tree sapling in his yard. They have since grown in popularity around the world, and are listed by the U.S. Apple Association as one of the top 15 most popular apple types in America!
